Why "The Salon"

This name has
centuries behind it.

Long before networking events existed, there were salons. And they were run by women.

Beginning in 17th century Paris, the salon was a gathering hosted by a woman — called a salonnière — in her private home. She curated the room. She set the tone. She decided who was invited. Writers, philosophers, artists, and cultural voices came together not to pitch or perform, but to think, debate, and create in community.

The most powerful intellectual movements in history were shaped in salons. The Enlightenment. The Harlem Renaissance. All of it started in a room where a woman held the space. GlamMore Society brings that tradition home.

1600s

Paris — The Original Salon

French women called salonnières host intimate intellectual gatherings in their homes. Their rooms become the center of cultural and philosophical life in Europe.

1700s

The Enlightenment Is Born

The ideas that reshape Western civilization — liberty, reason, equality — are debated in salons. Women held the rooms.

1920s

Harlem Renaissance Salons

Black women like A'Lelia Walker host salons in Harlem that become the heartbeat of an entire cultural movement.
